No Holds Barred: Carl Froch, Glen Johnson, and the Ethics of Boxing
On this audio edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman previews the June 4 fight between WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Glen Johnson. This fight takes place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will be televised in the U.S. on Showtime and in the U.K. on Sky Sports.
The Froch-Johnson fight is the last semifinal bout in the lengthy Super Six World Boxing Classic, with the winner taking on unbeaten WBA champ Andre Ward in the finals.
We spoke with both Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KOs) and Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KOs) on a media conference call last week about this fight.
We also address the issue of ethics in boxing, or the lack thereof, and the need for a code of ethics in sports, and especially in the contact and combat sports. We discuss this both in relation to the experience of the World Boxing Classic, both positive and negative, and to boxing in general.
